It Happened Again review: The hard, awkward and funny aspects of life

Betsy and Rebecca host It Happened Again, a podcast that explores everyday life. Armed with questions and observations, they never shy away from the awkward, hardships and funny aspects of life. As listeners, we are guided through two 20-something-year-olds and are taken on humorous snippets of their day-to-day.

There is not an episode that has been tipped-toed around, Betsy and Becca go straight in and hit us with the facts of life: the real grind of living in the UK. A podcast started in lockdown that had been in the back of their minds for a few years, shows that (1) life can be too busy for all our wonderful plans and dreams and (2) everything happens for a reason. Each episode gives us an engaging and accessible approach to the topics of the day.

My experience

If you want to feel as if you’re sitting with your best friends and putting the world to rights, then this is the podcast for you. I love that everything Betsy and Becca talk about is relatable. It’s for the average person who lives a normal life. It’s an element that makes me feel at ease. Having similar life situations and scenarios is a real treasure to listen to. The authenticity and realness that shines through is my favourite aspect. I can really feel their close-knit bond and friendship; this drew me in to want to see the daily adventures they get up to.

“We’ve both been feeling off recently, wasting gym memberships, not wanting to leave the house.”

One episode, in particular, I welled up listening to because it was weirdly so relatable to what I was going through at that point in my life was ‘Episode 39: I’m Ready to Fight’. I felt a strong connection to every word they said. I really appreciated their thoughts and feelings on the sometimes hidden subject of only showing our best selves in the world of Instagram. I didn’t feel as alone at that moment.

Would I recommend?

It’s not a podcast that is overly loud, in-your-face and flashy, therefore, if you enjoy a pulled back production with a real sense of calm, clarity and connectivity, then this is an easy podcast to listen to. The topics are practicable and heartfelt, with a real sense of ‘the doors is always open’ vibe.
